- 1/22/08 - The Consequences of Surviving Throat Cancer at 37 (PDF) CSS provided funds to replace a voice box for Peter Broomfield, who lost his voice nearly 20 years ago because of cancer.
- 1/19/08 - Behind on the Rent, and Then a Baby Needs Surgery (PDF) CSS helped a family with rent arrears after the cost of surgery to repair a valve in the heart of the 2-month old daughter.
- 1/14/08 - On a Fixed Income, and Facing a Financial Disaster (PDF) A retired couple facing financial difficulties came to CSS, which was able to work with a bank to free their funds, applied for and received food stamps, and even recouped three years worth of federal tax refunds.
- 1/13/08 - A Recovered Addict Struggles to Keep His Home (PDF) Chemotherapy treatments for lung cancer forced Gabriel Crumity to quit his job. Disability checks did not cover his rent and other expenses.
CSS was able to provide him with funds for rent arrears, allowing him to save his apartment.
- 12/29/07 – A Lesson in Giving (PDF)(editorial) CSS used the Times Neediest Fund to help Alonzo Cobb find a place to live and a temporary job until he was hired as a high school math teacher. It also covered his expenses while he trained for his new job.
- 12/1/07 – Family Bonds That Hurt Also Heal (PDF) Mignon Taylor went through an emotional breakdown after the deaths of her brother and sister. She was unable to work. Unable to navigate the system for health care or employment, she was in danger of eviction until aid at CSS through the Times Neediest Fund.
- 12/27/07 - Therapists Are Leashed, but Affection Is Unbridled (PDF) A CSS volunteer from the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program provides pet therapy visits to hospitals, hospices, and nursing homes throughout Staten Island.
The Neediest Cases Fund reimburses his travel expenses.
- 12/14/07 - At 89, She Steps Lively in the Name of Volunteerism (PDF) Mary Shalo, a CSS volunteer at the Retired & Volunteer Program since 1985, works at a home for the aged, Meals on Wheels, and the Salvation Army. The Neediest Cases Fund provides her with a small stipend and additional insurance for volunteers.

Mr. Fields was interviewed on Senator Edwards announcement about withdrawing from the presidential campaign. He also talked about the CSS survey "The Unheard Third," the Working Cities forum held February 2007, and poverty in New York City.
