For decades, public housing has been plagued by poor conditions, with units experiencing issues like rodents, leaks, and structural damage. While NYCHA households stand out for having many reported problems, poor housing conditions plague low-income households no matter where they live, highlighting a broader housing crisis for low-income New Yorkers.

In an effort to better understand what CSS calls the Other Housing Crisis, beyond the often-studied supply shortage and lack of affordability, we dig deeper into both who is facing the brunt of these declining housing conditions and how serious they are for New York’s families.
