Forgotten: Rent Arrears In New York Public Housing Over The Covid-19 Pandemic

Summary: By June 2023, CSS estimates that more than 50,000 public housing households in New York State will owe housing authorities a total of $589.4 million in rental arrears, most piled on since the onset of the pandemic. This report highlights the urgent need for increased funding for emergency rental assistance programs and calls for the reallocation of existing ERA funds to cover outstanding ERAP applications.
