Summary:
Millennials were already struggling to gain a foothold in the labor market in the aftermath of the Great Recession. With the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, millennials are now entering their peak earning years with yet another blow to their future wage growth and stand to be worse off financially than their parents and grandparents.
This report highlights the pre-pandemic educational and labor market gaps between local millennials and transplants, and makes policy recommendations that would ensure a local economic recovery plan focuses on the needs of low-income immigrant and New York-born millennials, who are already bearing the brunt of the economic fallout.
