Spotlight on Police Reform: Interview with Sociologist Alex Vitale

As part of the Community Service Society's "Spotlight on Police Reform" interview series, CSS President and CEO David R. Jones spoke with Alex Vitale, author of The End of Policing, and Professor of Sociology and Coordinator of the Policing and Social Justice Project at Brooklyn College. The interview explored factors that are often found at the intersection where police and communities of color come into conflict.

About Spotlight on Police Reform

For generations, Black and brown Americans living in cities, towns and rural areas across the nation have rightfully been afraid of uniformed officers. Far too often, police officers engage in indefensible violence against the very people they are supposed to serve and protect.

With Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive order, Police Departments across New York face a mandate to implement broad reforms consistent with community priorities. The Spotlight on Police Reform project has compiled comprehensive resources and expert testimony to empower communities seeking to re-envision policing.
