Summary:

New York faces a homelessness crisis. CityFHEPS, NYC's rental assistance program, is one of the primary ways to help people transition to stable housing by capping rents and limiting a family's contribution to 30 percent of household income. However, the program faces challenges, including complex application processes, gaps in eligibility and access, and discrimination against voucher holders. Even for those who secure vouchers, these obstacles can make finding housing difficult.

Our new CityFHEPS fact sheet examines where the program stands as of December 2024 and looks ahead at what's next.
