Statement from Community Service Society on Fair Fares
According to the New York Times and other news sources, the mayor and the City Council have reached an agreement to provide half-fare MetroCards to low-income New York City subway and bus riders below the federal poverty line. This will make an enormous difference for economically struggling New Yorkers and will be a major step towards making New York a fairer, more equitable city. Our deepest thanks to City Council Speaker, Corey Johnson, members of the City Council, Mayor Bill de Blasio, members of the Fair Fares Coalition of over 70 economic justice, transit, legal, faith, civil rights and human services groups, and all our supporters for making this bold idea a reality.
