Statement by CSS President and CEO David R. Jones on City’s “Fair Fares” Program
The Community Service Society of New York commends the Adams Administration for taking important steps toward making the half-priced Fair Fares transit discount program available on Fair Fares issued OMNY cards. By allowing Fair Fares enrollees to use OMNY cards for transit, the City is making it easier for thousands of New Yorkers to access public transit, manage their transit costs, and reap benefits from the fare-capping system.
Fair Fares is a lifeline to hundreds of thousands of working New Yorkers struggling with transit affordability in a city with ever-rising costs of living. While we continue to fight for an expansion of Fair Fares to at least 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL), we acknowledge the efforts of the mayor, Speaker Adams and the New York City Council in supporting the program which is making our public transit system more accessible and affordable for those who rely on it the most to get to work, job-training opportunities, educational opportunities, cultural sites and everywhere else in the city.
