Press Release
CSS Represented on Mayor-Elect Mamdani’s Transition Committees
Today Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announced 17 committees that will guide his mayoral transition.
We are pleased to report that the Community Service Society of New York will be represented on four of those committees: CSS President and CEO David R. Jones was appointed to the Committee on Social Services; CSS Board Trustee Laura Kavanagh was appointed to the Committee on Government Operations; CSS Vice President of Health Initiatives Elisabeth Benjamin was appointed to the Committee on Health; and CSS Senior Policy Analyst Iziah Thompson was appointed to the Committee on Housing.
As he prepares to take office on January 1st, CSS looks forward to working with the mayor-elect and his team, drawing on our research and advocacy work promoting economic mobility for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers struggling with housing affordability, accessible healthcare, economic security and public transit affordability.
In his victory speech, the mayor-elect pledged to “make this city one that working people can live and love in again.” Those words resonate deeply with the constituencies we serve. To that end, we hope to be a resource to the new administration and its plans for advancing policies that emphasize equity, dignity, compassion and hope for working people who have struggled to survive in a city that is increasingly unaffordable.
