Advocates Renew Call for Transparency, Resident Input in NYCHA Planning

In response to opposition voiced by public housing residents, elected officials, CSS and other community organizations, NYCHA has taken a second look at its Infill/Land-Lease development plan, slowing down the process and adding positive changes to the original plan. But more needs to be done to insure a stronger voice for residents on this plan to lease land in public housing developments to private developers for the construction of high-end market residential towers. In addition, NYCHA needs to refrain from rushing to designate developers and approve proposals before the next administration takes office.

In a letter sent to Mayor Bloomberg and NYCHA Chairman Rhea, CSS and our partners in The NYC Alliance to Preserve Public Housing call for greater transparency in the planning process and for residents to be heard on all decisions that impact their daily lives and communities.
