Bio

Steven L. Krause is the Senior Advisor to the President and CEO. He serves as a trusted strategic partner, providing high‑level counsel, analysis, and support on the organization’s most critical priorities while enhancing the CEO’s effectiveness across internal leadership, board relations, and external engagements. The role functions as a key liaison between the CEO and senior leadership to ensure alignment and follow‑through on strategic initiatives, conducts research and synthesis of complex issues to inform executive decision‑making, and leads or contributes to high‑impact projects that advance the organization’s mission. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing all the day-to-day operations of CSS – Finance and Management, Policy and Advocacy, Program Services, Government and Public Affairs, and External Affairs.

Prior to joining CSS, Mr. Krause was Deputy Executive Director of the New York City Youth Bureau and, from 1978 to 1980, served as Chief Administrator for Finance and Management at the New York City Board of Education. Mr. Krause has had a distinguished career in public service, including senior-level positions at the New York City Human Resources Administration and the Youth Services Agency. He served on Mayor David Dinkins’ transition team on youth and social services. He has been a member of several panels and boards, including Mayor Koch’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Youth Services and New York City’s Arts Partner’s Initiative. He currently serves on the board of CUNY’s Creative Arts Team.

Mr. Krause was an adjunct professor in mathematics and public administration at the College of New Rochelle from 1977 to 1980. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from the same institution.
