Bio

Debipriya Chatterjee is a Senior Economist with the Community Service Society. Prior to joining CSS, she was a Senior Research Associate with the Poverty Research Unit in Mayor's Office for Economic Opportunity (NYC Opportunity) and an Economist with the City of New York's Independent Budget Office. Her research focuses on evaluating fiscal and economic impacts of policy changes on poverty, inequality, and economic well-being of New Yorkers, especially of those in low-income communities of color. At CSS, Debipriya works on issues of economic security, including transit justice and gender/race-based inequities in labor market. Her work has been featured in several media outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Crain's New York Business, New York Daily News, Gotham Gazette and amNY. Prior to joining the City of New York, Debipriya was an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has a PhD. in Economics from Brown University. Debipriya is also a Board Member with the Fiscal Policy Institute (FPI) since December 2020.
