Letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio on Discount Fares for Low-Income New Yorkers

CSS, New York’s premier anti-poverty organization, and Riders Alliance, New York’s grassroots membership organization of bus and subway riders, released a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio urging him to include funding in his Fiscal Year 2018 Executive Budget for a program that would offer half-price MetroCards to New Yorkers between the ages of 18 and 64 living in households with incomes at or below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). The letter was signed by 27 City Council Members, Public Advocate Letitia James and City Comptroller Scott Stringer and 26 organizations. Organizations supporting the proposal include the Straphangers Campaign, Tri-State Transportation Campaign, Transit Workers Union (TWU), Working Families, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, Make the Road-NY, and a number of other major organizations throughout the city.
