Joint Statement: Betsy Plum of Riders Alliance and David Jones of CSS Applaud City Council Budget Response for Including Funding for Fair Fares Expansion
"Expanding Fair Fares is a critical investment in the success of New York's working families and communities. By expanding both funding and eligibility, the Council's budget response takes a major step forward toward a fairer New York.
"It was just over a year ago that the Adams Administration and the Council worked together to baseline funding for Fair Fares in the city budget. It was a mutual acknowledgement of the importance of expanding transit affordability.
"We urge Mayor Adams to once again work with Speaker Adams, and incorporate these recommendations into his executive budget proposal and the final adopted budget due in June."
