Social Services Department
Transition-To-Work Program
The program is designed
to assist low- income clients to move towards a higher level of long
term economic self-sufficiency. Self-sufficiency is defined as
the amount of income necessary for a family to meet its basic needs.
The service is specifically targeted to assist heads of households,
over age 18, who are seeking to move from welfare to work or seeking
to move from low wage work to self-sufficiency income, and require
case management services to accomplish this goal.
A Case Manager is assigned to work with each participant for a 12 month
period to assist in developing self-sufficiency goals and to work with
clients to accomplish those goals through a combination of case management,
referrals and limited financial assistance. Case Managers work with clients
to identify and overcome obstacles to securing employment and self-sufficiency.
These may include family issues, health issues and housing issues. All
participants are required to make a commitment to participate in active
job search for the duration of the program, and to meet with their case
manager on a monthly basis.
Financial assistance may be provided to cover such items as vocational
training expenses, carfare for interviews, exam fees, licensing
fees, uniform expenses and/or other emergency expenses to facilitate
the client’s
progress towards self-sufficiency. We also provide employment
search assistance utilizing free resume writing software, free
use of computer / internet / telephone / fax and copying to conduct job searches.
