Social Services Department
Eviction Prevention Program
We inform, refer, and advocate for tenants and homeowners threatened
with homelessness. We help clients apply for a "one-shot deal" or
ongoing public assistance to pay rent arrears. Clients receive referrals
to appropriate legal services or protective
services for adults. Our staff follow up until the eviction or foreclosure
has stopped and rent or mortgage arrears are paid.
Eviction Prevention services include:
- Limited financial aid for rent or mortgage arrears, using EFSP or
CSS funds.
- Referrals to legal services for holdover petitions or disputes with
landlord.
- Confirming eligibility of clients for "one shot deal" or
public assistance.
- Negotiating along with clients for payment agreements with landlords.
- Helping clients obtain an Order to Show Cause from the Housing Court.
- Obtaining legal guidance from a housing attorney.
