NYC MANAGED CARE CONSUMER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (MCCAP)
The New York City Managed Care Consumer Assistance Program (NYC MCCAP) is an innovative resource that helps New Yorkers navigate the complex health care system, providing assistance to the most vulnerable and underserved communities. First established in 1998 with funds from the City Council, NYC MCCAP has grown to a $4,022,000 program that has served over 150,000 clients in the past 10 years. The MCCAP is a unique decentralized model of program delivery. CSS subcontracts with 26 community-based organizations representing all five boroughs and providing services in 12 different languages. The goal of the NYC MCCAP is to educate and assist New Yorkers with obtaining affordable health insurance, using managed care plans to access needed care, understanding their rights as consumers in managed care, and resolving problems with their health insurances. We serve people with a wide range of insurance types, from public health insurance programs such as Medicaid, Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus, and Medicare, to the commercially insured, as well as those who are uninsured. NYC MCCAP is also a critical resource for government agencies, advocates, and social service providers who work with our communities. We provide free trainings and help to empower local community-based organizations and strengthen the health care capacity in New York. Visit the MCCAP website for program information.
