CSS STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF THE HON. THOMAS R. JONES

Board Chairwoman Reflects On The Life And Legacy Of Noted Jurist

October 29, 2006, New York, New York—The chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Community Service Society of New York (CSS), Janet W. Thompson, released the following statement on the passing of retired New York State Supreme Court justice, the Hon. Thomas R. Jones.

“The Board of Trustees of the Community Service Society of New York (CSS) wishes to express its condolence to our president and CEO David R. Jones, and his family, upon the passing of his father, the Hon. Thomas R. Jones. The accomplishments of Judge Jones are numerous and his contribution to this city significant. A tireless advocate, champion of the less fortunate, and dedicated to the pursuit of justice, Judge Jones will be remembered for leading an exemplary life of public service. Among the numerous milestones of his illustrious career, he will undoubtedly be recalled for his role in founding and serving as the first chairman of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, the nation’s first community development corporation. His commitment to the disadvantaged of our city is reflected in the leadership of his son at the helm of this organization. Thomas R. Jones will be missed by all but his legacy and perseverance will serve as inspiration for generations to follow.”
