Hip-hop Activist Kevin Powell Featured Speaker

2006 --- Prominent hip-hop activist Kevin Powell
will be the featured speaker at the 8th Annual CSS Associates
Cocktail Party to benefit the Community Service Society to
be held on April 27th from 6:30 to 9:30 at Strata in New York
City.
The theme of this year’s event is “Get Connected” focusing
on ways young people can help connect communities in crisis with
the decision-makers who can bring about real change through grassroots
activism and volunteerism. Powell will speak on the subject
of Black male empowerment.
Powell--currently a candidate for Congress in Brooklyn--is a controversial
public speaker, hip-hop historian, political activist, writer,
and media commentator. He is popularly known for his appearances
on MTV’s first season of The Real World.
The event is hosted by the agency’s Associates Junior Board
-- a diverse group of socially-minded young professionals who
support CSS’s long history of advocacy and community development.
