The Community Service Society congratulates our friend and former board member Richard Buery on his appointment as Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives in the de Blasio Administration.
As the outgoing President and CEO of the Children’s Aid Society, and founder of community-based mentoring and enrichment program serving needy youth and families, Richard understands that poverty must be fought on many fronts. He brings to the mayor’s office a keen sense of the struggles of poor children and families, and practical experience working with advocates, policy makers, business groups and communities to achieve results.
For those reasons, as well as his reputation as a tireless advocate for children living in poverty and expanding opportunities for young people, it is fitting that he lead the mayor’s effort to advance and achieve universal pre-kindergarten and other key strategic initiatives. All of us at CSS extend our best wishes to Richard as he takes on this new challenge.
