Statement: Governor’s and Mayor’s MTA plan

Statement in repsonse to the release of Governor Cuomo and Mayor De Blasio Announce 10-Point Plan to Transform and Fund the MTA

We are happy to see Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio working together to address the massive breakdown of our city’s mass transit system, especially their embrace of congestion pricing as a means to fund much needed repairs and improvements. As our research has shown, congestion pricing is a progressive measure and the transit upgrades these funds would provide will help 2.2 million New Yorkers who rely on public transportation get to work. Combined with a full roll-out of the city’s Fair Fares program, this plan will help make our subways and buses more reliable and accessible for low-income New Yorkers who depend on them for their livelihoods.
