The Community Service Society applauds the Cuomo Administration for its important decision to maintain Medicaid coverage to New York’s “Dreamers.”
In this morning’s press release Governor Cuomo reiterates New York State’s support for immigrants, including those who have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status. As a result of decades-old litigation, the State provided Medicaid for the DACA immigrants who were considered to be permanently residing under color of law (PRUCOL). With the Trump Administration’s decision to halt the DACA program, there was a question as to whether New York would continue to consider the DACA immigrants to be eligible for Medicaid as PRUCOL immigrants.
Today’s bold decision by the governor definitively answers that question in the affirmative for New York’s dreamers.
