The Community Service Society (CSS) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that has been at the forefront of public policy innovations that support low-income New Yorkers for more than 170 years.  CSS runs a number of statewide programs that help consumer enroll and effectively use their health insurance coverage and access health care, including the:  CSS Navigator Network (CNN), Community Health Advocates (CHA), the Independent Consumer Advocacy Network (ICAN), the Facilitated Enrollment program for Aged, Blind and Disabled (FE-ABD), and East Harlem Health Advocates.  Typically, these programs operate through a statewide network of community based organizations and a CSS-based live-answer helplines.  Services are free for New York health care consumers and small businesses.  CSS also coordinates the Health Care for All New York Campaign, a coalition of 170 groups dedicated to securing quality, affordable coverage for all New Yorkers.  

This position will providing administrative and policy support to a team of CSS staff working with community based organizations in New York City.  

Job Description:

  • Provide administrative and scheduling support for the Health Initiatives Department
  • Develop, administer and enter information into a database developed to support community based organizations
  • Assist with program meetings, materials, contact lists and document production
  • Conduct policy and operational research as required by the project team 
  • Perform other duties as may be required

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Excellent research skills required
  • Strong organizational, written and oral communications skills required
  • Experience working in nonprofit, mission-driven, or public policy agencies strongly preferred
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access required
  • Demonstrated administrative and budgetary skills required
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure required
